Sobre o programa

Summary
Art in Tanzania and its partners work with Tanzanian corporate and government institutions to tackle Corporate Social Responsibility issues, including actions against climate change.

Details
In the Western world, private citizens' social responsibility is commonly recognized and introduced in school curricula and public advocacy programs.

In Tanzania, private citizens' social responsibility is poorly known, and the public is not informed about climate change. Corporate policies don't seriously consider social responsibility issues.

At the same time, Tanzania is one country where climate change strongly affects the agriculture-based economy.

This program's goal is to educate the schools and the public about social responsibility and to deliver the message in the schools with the help of the Tanzanian business community.

Presently, we work with entities such as Dar es Salaam University, TWIGA Cement, Airtel, PVC, NBC Bank, and Coca-Cola, and we are extending the program further. The field operations include working in a tree nursery and planting operations.

This program has a cross-cutting focus where students of different professions can attend and work together.

Your internship is supervised daily by academic-level team leaders. We monitor your work with a weekly plan and report system to ensure your success in your study program.

The internship outcome is to learn to use and get experience implementing your education in developing country conditions with limited capacity and to better understand the opportunities in a fast-growing economy.

Interns work in teams of international students and volunteer professionals. We encourage innovation in the program approach. Work hours are 6-8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

This is an ongoing program, so we can adjust your start dates. We accept the applications of all students and alumni. Your placement is tailored according to your background, experience, and interests to empower our daily work with the communities. Your program can last from 2 weeks to 12 months. You can also write a thesis and do related tasks. The typical daily tasks include practical fieldwork, planning, reporting, and visibility.

The start and end dates are flexible and can also accommodate other travel arrangements in Tanzania. International flights, student permits, accommodation, and meals are personal costs.

You and your visiting friends can enjoy cheaply sustainable tourism, safaris, and local tour options.

We need your tentative arrival and departure dates, which you can adjust, to book you in and open your personal account.

The participant will develop human rights materials and study the present legislation and changes in it. Rights issues such as LGBT rights are sensitive in Africa and need to be adjourned accordingly.

Much of the work is advocating how to implement the present human rights laws. The general public does not necessarily know their rights, and we advocate for vulnerable groups, such as women, children, and disabled people. You will use existing tool kits for seminars, but you also develop and create new ones.

Much time will be spent on visibility, as, for example, Facebook is a great tool to reach Tanzanian people. Art in Tanzania's Facebook page has 19k likes, and we can deliver information to tens of thousands of Tanzanian people.

Conheça seu anfitrião

Art In Tanzania (AIT) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in Tanzania, Zanzibar, and Finland. The organization launched in 2001, supporting local artists who did not have the resources to develop their talents. Since then, the organization has grown and runs more than 300 volunteer and internship placements in Tanzania, including a record label called Mzuka Records and Fiesta Magazine, a yearly magazine targeting Tanzanian youth.

Art In Tanzania welcomes volunteers and interns to participate in community projects and organizes adventure programs such as safarishistorical tours and climbs to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro! Alums, volunteers, interns and their families can participate in our safari and tourism programs. When you book your trip through AIT, you will have the experience of a lifetime while supporting the local Tanzania community. Art In Tanzania is part of the Children's Agenda Tanzania Program, and volunteers and interns are needed to assist us in the program management and implementation with partners such as UNICEF, Save the Children, and SOS International, among others.

AIT alums include volunteers and interns from all over the world. Volunteer and intern projects are in the fields of Education (all levels), Social Work, Medical and health practice, Social Media, Arts and music, Sports, and HIV/AIDS Awareness.

Art In Tanzania volunteers and interns are in Dar es Salaam, Moshi in Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. There are around 600 to 1,000 volunteers and interns arriving annually. AIT's support team includes 70 staff members, expatriates, and local officials.
