    Volunteer can also teach subjects like mathematics or computer literacy, science, Arts or get involved with extracurricular activities.

A volunteer Teaching placement in Ghana gives you plenty of practical classroom experience, along with building your lesson planning skills.

Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

  Work as teacher in the placement and assist the current teachers and staff.

   Bring interesting teaching materials, books, stationery, flashcards and games which can be helpful in teaching students in a play way method.

   Design a proper study module for the children to follow.

   Involve students in out–of–the–class activities to teach them the importance of physical activity

Typical day

Volunteer will Wake up in the host family’s house every morning, get dressed, and have breakfast in the kitchen area. Eat a plate of breads and spreads before grabbing your packed lunch and heading out the door. Jump into a tro-tro (mode of Transport) or shared taxi and make your way to the school. On your first day, Samba staff will accompany you to show you the way.

A typical day starts at 8am and finishes between 1- 3pm, with a half hour break around 10am and an hour lunch break at 12pm.  Work is from Monday to Friday and have the weekends free to explore and relax.

Your day will be varied with regards to the subjects you teach. One-day participant may start with English and French classes, Science and others volunteer will be teaching IT and mathematics. Volunteer will assist the teachers with extracurricular lessons in the afternoons. Every lessons is between 30 minutes to an hour long, with some lessons being double periods.

When lessons are over, volunteer will have free time to prepare lessons for the next day. The teachers will be happy to assist you plan lessons, although your own new ideas will be welcomed.

Once you are done for the day, head home or grab a traditional Ghanaian meal from a restaurant or food stall with the other volunteers. Volunteer also have plenty of free time on the weekends, so organize a trip with other volunteers, or just relax and explore on your own.

Weekends, are free days for the volunteers. You may choose to travel out of town to see the many interesting sights and sounds in other parts of Ghana or hang out with your fellow volunteer(s) and/or locals in the neighborhood.

Weekends, are free days for the volunteers. You may choose to travel out of town to see the many interesting sights and sounds in other parts of Ghana or hang out with your fellow volunteer(s) and/or locals in the neighborhood.

Weekend trips available include visits to Mole National Park in the Northern Region of Ghana. This National Park offers a great Safari-like experience and is one of the biggest Elephant Sanctuaries in Africa with the chance to spot Lions, Leopards & Antelopes in their natural habitat.
Volunteers can also take a trip to Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana to relax in the beautiful beaches and see the famous Cape Coast castle, the Kakum Canopy walkway and Elmina castle, where slave trade begun.

Minimum Age: 18 years

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Language Skills

You need to speak English (basic level)

Education Requirements

Math,English ,science, Painting &Drawing, Music & Dance,Social Studies etc at univerisity and High school level

Nationality Restrictions

No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.

Other Skills

This role is suitable for a flexible, mature, caring, motivated and self-directed person. A teaching qualification is not required but volunteers need to be much confident.

Time Commitment

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:00 - 15:00

Airport Pickup at Kotoka International Airport

On the day (or night) of your arrival, SAMBA AFRICA VOLUNTEERING (SAVO) staffs will be at the airport to welcome you and transfer you to a hotel with fan rooms and restaurant only in the night of your arrival, Orientation and transportation to your assigned placement will be done the next morning following your arrival day but arrival in day time you will be transported to your destination (KUMASI).

Accommodation

The accommodation belongs to the host-families. There are always other people in the house as well; and they would be willing to give you some assistance. You would be placed in the same location with another volunteer - unless you specifically state that you like to be stayed alone. Participants coming as couple or pair will not be placed with other volunteers in the same bedroom. The volunteer(s) have their separate room - with a lock and key. Its advisable to come along with a mosquitoes net.

Food & Beverages

Host families will provide volunteers with breakfast, lunch and dinner during the working week.

Breakfast is usually ready by around 7am; however volunteer can eat later if you prefer to get up late. Lunch is usually packed by your host family in a lunch box so that you can eat at your project if you wish. Dinner is usually served around 6pm.

If you have special eating needs, you can inform us. Even though special eating needs are not something we can guarantee, we will do our best to meet your needs.

The nearest airport is Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra. We assist you to find cheap flights to Ghana. FIND CHEAP FLIGHTS

Travel Insurance

Details on arrival

The educational/ teaching program in Ghana is not available all-round the year. It is available during the curriculum sessions of the schools: January-April, May-July, September-December.
