About the program

Overview of the program

The Nepali children are very keen to learn and improve their conversational English to brighten their future and also to be able to  speak English. Children and teenagers at schools, adults in  villages. Some volunteers teach English to teachers. Many Nepali teachers don’t speak English yet they teach English and need help.

Teaching English as a volunteer will give you the opportunity to teach students who are eager to learn and improve their abilities in English. The students will also benefit from cultural exchange and different teaching techniques.

You will be placed in either a public (government) or private school, depending on the area you wish to work. Your main role will be to teach English, however you may have the opportunity to assist in other school activities such as sports and extra curricular projects.

Generally as a volunteer you will be teaching for 4 to 6hours per day, 6 days a week, to students aged between 6 and 13 years old.

There will be a permanent English teacher at the school to assist you with teaching methods, offer advice on dealing with communication barriers and provide you with suitable curriculum for the classroom. If you are volunteering during school holidays or exam periods Alliance Nepal will find alternative activities for you to participate in such as working in an orphanage.

Volunteering your time abroad to help others is a fantastic experience that will give you the opportunity to work and live side by side with local people. You will undoubtedly learn new skills through having to adjust to new situations and challenge yourself by volunteering in a developing country.
