About the program

Medical volunteering in Tanzania Arusha will be a great opportunity for all pre-med, medical and nursing students to know about the healthcare scenario of a Third World Country and effectively contribute towards the well being of the people.

Placements are provided in medical clinics, dispensaries, and hospitals located in and around the city of Arusha. This program is particularly suited for those volunteers looking for international hands-on experience and overseas medical work exposure. Medical professionals are also welcomed to be a part of this project and contribute as much as they can. Work will vary depending on the experiences of individual volunteers. 

Volunteering Solutions also arranges Dentistry and Elective placements in Tanzania. Dentistry volunteers work in the dental department in hospital placements in Arusha. The placements are suitable for dental students looking to do a Dental Elective Program in Africa and gain some valuable knowledge and experience by working under the supervision of dentists and dental assistants.

Typical day

Sunday - Arrival at the destination (Arusha)
Monday - An orientation session will be conducted by the local coordinator, covering the major topics such as safety, culture, language, places to visit, behavior, food, and other suggestions for things to do in Tanzania.

Sunday - Arrival at the destination (Arusha)
Monday - An orientation session will be conducted by the local coordinator, covering the major topics such as safety, culture, language, places to visit, behavior, food, and other suggestions for things to do in Tanzania.
Tuesday to Friday - Volunteer work at the placement.
Weekends - Explore the city / Head out for wildlife safaris and much more.
Breakfast - 07:30 am onwards.
Working hours at the placement - 08:30 am to 12:30 pm and 02:00 pm to 03:00 pm.
Lunch - 12:30 pm onwards.
Dinner - 06:30 pm onwards.
The same work schedule continues from the second week onwards (Monday - Friday).

Free-time activities

Typically most of the volunteers choose to travel outside Arusha on the weekends and go for Safari trips. You have the option to choose a 2 to 3 day Safari trips to Serengeti, Tarangire and Ngorogoro. You can also head to Moshi or explore the coffee plantations and waterfalls area near Arusha. ..

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Other Skills

Participants should have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. The volunteer should bring energy and enthusiasm to make a difference. Medical volunteers must provide a clean criminal background check report, CV, Passport Copy as well as other documents and credentials pertaining to their qualifications prior to joining the program. Pre Med, Medical, Nursing students, CNA’s, midwifery and dental students can join the program.

Airport Pickup at Kilimanjaro International Airport

You will be met by our representative at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Kilimanjaro region from where you are transferred to the accommodations in Arusha. 

Accommodation

Volunteer Accommodation is provided in a Volunteer Housing / Hostel type of accommodation. The accommodation will be shared along with other volunteers. Volunteer housing is well equipped with comfortable facilities for the volunteers. The Volunteer house has a large common area for the volunteers to relax and socialize with other participants. The house has a separate washing area where the volunteers can wash their clothes. For volunteers' safety and security, the house is equipped with CCTV cameras and is guarded by a security guard as well. The volunteer house also has facilities such as snooker table, table tennis table and has Wifi for volunteers use.

Food & Beverages

Volunteers are provided with 3 meals a day. Typical meals include Salads, Sandwiches, Ugali, Chapatti, Chai (Tea), Bread and rice, with vegetables and fruits. Breakfast and dinner are at the volunteer house while lunch is usually packed for you to eat the placement or can be taken if you are back at the accommodation. Meals provided to the volunteers are a mix of Tanzanian and western dishes usually. If you have any special dietary requirements, do let us know in advance.

Who we are?

Volunteering Solutions was established in 2006 with the aim of changing the face of volunteer traveling, and in the last 10 years, we have had more than 15,000 volunteers who completed their journeys with life changing experiences. Nicknamed as VolSol, we provide the best volunteer and intern opportunities to interested candidates from different parts of the world, and we ensure that each of them gets the maximum out of the program they choose.

As an organization, we have a cross-cultural set up in all our offices across the world. We have people from different countries, cultures and ethnicities working for us in order to make the process of volunteer traveling smoother and more flexible.

We have dedicated coordinators at each volunteer destination, coming from different countries.We take care of the volunteer’s placement, traveling, accommodation, meals and security. 

What we do?

Currently, Volunteering Solutions operates in more than 25 countries, providing more than 100 volunteering and interning options ranging from Child Care, Teaching, Medical and Healthcare, Community Development, Marine Conservation and much more. Most of our volunteers are high school students, couples, corporate groups and individuals on their summer break or gap year.

We are in collaboration with NGOs, schools, hospitals, orphanages, HIV/AIDS clinics, women groups and other social welfare organizations all across the globe. Each of these organizations have been working at the grassroot level for years, and successfully contributed towards the development of the concerned people. VolSol has ensured that the contribution of every volunteer is counted, and there’s sustainable growth.

Our mission is to offer the most comprehensive volunteer abroad experience to travelers from all walks of life, with a vision to promote ethical and sustainable travelling. We aim to make a difference in the lives of the unprivileged people in different parts of the world and to bridge the gap between the volunteers and the host communities to establish a 'Win-Win' situation for both.

Who are we looking for?

Travelers who are flexible in their approach, dedicated to provide their time and effort, and determined to make a difference in the society. Our volunteers come from all walks of life; be it a high school student or a retired professor. Any and everyone can join our projects, as long as they have the determination to be the part of volunteering brigade. The minimum age requirement to join our programs is 17 years, while, there's no maximum age limit. One need not have any particular degree or qualification to join our programs, and all we look for is the dedication and flexibility in the volunteer. 

Please Note: For our medical programs, volunteers need to be pre-med/medical/or certified doctors.
