    About the program

If you are interested in volunteering in the Health sector you will be able to work in the local hospital and help with consultations and public health such as, free health screening of Malaria,Cholera, Tuberculosis etc, Baby weighing,Helping in the maternity with child delivery and basic health assistant. As a health volunteer you also have the opportunity to take part in our health talks, which we organise at schools. Topics we have covered so far include, general hygiene, HIV/AIDS, STDs and Malaria. We are looking for volunteers to help with these health talks and we are open to suggestions on topics they would like to present on. These talks are meant to give primary school children basic knowledge that they can also take home and teach their siblings and friends. We try to make these talks interactive and use practical methods, e.g. demonstrating how to wash ones hands correctly etc. During epidemics, e.g. the recent Ebola outbreak in West Africa, we also try to reach out to entire communities, through health talks open to all, during which we also distribute fliers with more information. Volunteers can also help us organise basic first aid training to local teachers at our partner schools.

If you have more experience in this area and perhaps even a medical qualification you could be working alongside the nurses and doctors and applying / teaching your skills. During your time, you will be able to identify any problems you see in the health provision in the hospitals and you will be able to help tackle them with any you may have.

One of the good things about volunteering in Ghana is that virtually everyone can speak English and thus there are no communication difficulties and language should not have an effect on your placement. All of the volunteers will, through their project, get to know the culture of Ghana and will also be able to travel through other parts of the country on weekends. As you will be based in the same town as the organisation you will always have a contact person and any problems can be solved immediately.

There is a lot of work to be done and all volunteers are only placed into a project where their help is really needed and will for that reason, never have a lack of things to do in Ghana.

    Meet your organization

We work in Ghana to provide impoverished, orphaned and street children with Health Care and Education.
We need volunteers to help with teaching in one of our partner schools (any subject of your preferred choice), helping in local hospitals (i.e. during child delivery in the Maternity Unit), holding HIV/Aids awareness talks etc. These are only a few examples of the things you could be doing here in Ghana and we are willing to accommodate you with any skills you may have. If you have an idea in which area you would like to volunteer you can also let us know and we will see if such an opportunity is available.
