    About the program

Care Sumatra funds several afterschool programs teaching English with an environmental focus. There are also classes for children who do not go to school. We also have several staff we are currently training in English and hospitality. Indonesia is globally ranked 50th in education and teaching strategies in formal schools are limited to rote learning and teaching from workbooks. Our classrooms aim to provide more inclusive and effective teaching programs.

An opportunity exists for a person with experience or qualifications in teaching to assist with these programs while being based at our conservation property in the forest near Bukit Lawang, Sumatra. There are opportunities to plan and deliver multiple learning programs, which can be used for personal portfolios for teachers seeking to use this opportunity to gain experience for future employment also.

    Tasks:

    -        Plan and deliver daily English lessons to Care Sumatra staff and associated people

    -        Assist in the delivery and improvement of Care Sumatra Education programs, including Dream Class, Jungle School, Tiger Green School, Sunshine Market Class and other programs.

    -        Provide teacher development to improve lesson delivery

    -        Develop portfolios on classrooms, teachers, and students to be used in future accreditations, fundraisers, outreach etc.

    -        Collaborate with stakeholders to design appropriate assessments to display learning achievements

    -        Look for and apply to funding opportunities and grants

    -                Assist in sharing our school projects on social media and through other methods to raise the profile and awareness of our programs.

    -                Regularly report to the Education Manager

Our children’s English lessons run most of the year, however it may be closed during Ramadan and over Christmas and New Year.

      Meet your organization

Our mission is to support development in North Sumatra by connecting dedicated volunteers with local community projects.

Our vision is for equal opportunities in North Sumatra for everyone to succeed and thrive.

Our goal at CareSumatra is to connect suitable community led projects with willing, capable volunteers in a way that benefits both parties. Together, we aim to offer life changing support to the children and adults at the community-led projects we partner, and also a life changing development opportunity for our selected volunteers.

Our ultimate objective, however, is to support our wide range of projects with suitable volunteers to help them improve the quality of people's lives in their local area.
