Details on arrival
The Volunteer Program is possible all year around.
Going from the airport we can organize you our taxi for 650.000 Rupiah (~45€). You pay the taxi driver directly. Because the costs are per drive you can share the taxi as a group and split the costs. The drive is about 4 hours.
Usually you will be picked up by our driver Tiar (nickname). He is really nice, reliable and will bring you safely to Bukit Lawang.
There’s also a local bus from Medan to Bukit Lawang. The bus station is on the right when exiting the airport - please ask locals if you are unsure. The bus from the airport to Bukit Lawang for tourists costs 50.000-100.000 Rupiah (about 3-6€) and takes about 4-5 hours.
If you want to stay one night in Medan, prepare a hotel accommodation. There are some close to the the airport, e.g. RedDoorz.
Important: In the late afternoon/ evening (from around 3-4pm) there are no more public buses from Medan, but cabs leave at any time.
