Our healthcare placements offer an exceptional learning opportunity, in addition to a gratifying volunteer experience. These placements offer an international learning ground where you can not only view healthcare in practice but effects of volunteering abroad in healthcare are plain to see. Medical care is a basic human right, and making it accessible for all is essential. 

The hospitals and clinics that we work with are striving to fulfill that need, and can always benefit from an extra pair of hands. Working on our health projects offers a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to become familiar with the challenges and health issues of developing countries. All our hospitals and clinics are government approved. 

The work environment is way different from the circumstances you are used to work. You need to be open minded and able to deal with the sometimes poor health care options that are given.This project is open to everyone who want to help make a difference in the lives of underprivileged people in Africa in the field of Medical Health Care in Africa

Volunteer work

This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in your field in a different culture where practices may differ considerably to what you're used to. We have a variety of Medical placements available in Ghana. You could work in a hospital or a clinic. You can work in a variety of difference medical departments, where you can either assist or shadow the staff members. The type of work you will be allocated will depend to an extent on your own abilities and capabilities, which is understandable given that you will be dealing with patient health and safety.

You will be involved in the day-to-day running of hospitals and clinics directly assisting the doctors and nurses. If you are planning to specialize in a particular field of medicine in your studies, we can arrange to place you in a relevant department to ensure that we benefit from your knowledge in your field of study and you also learning from our local professionals. This project is open to anyone who wants to help improve the lives of the poor in Africa.

Your responsibilities will include some of the following: Going forward rounds with doctors to examine cases and determine the next line of action, following up cases and ensuring that proper medication is dispensed, helping to take patients' histories and subsequent diagnosis, helping with general consultation activities. Observing procedures, Undertake office administration, health data recording and storage, taking care of patients reporting for out-patient care or on admission Changing bandages and monitoring recovery, checking blood pressure, weighing babies helping with first aid treatment.

What you can expect
Many of our health care centers also run different programs on health education, basic prevention, nutrition and sanitation. Volunteer job might cover these areas as many hospitals also work in coordination with the local communities, presenting different programs on health education, basic prevention, nutrition, and sanitation. Your presence is extremely helpful in such programs. Such health projects offer a wonderful opportunity for volunteers and students to be acquainted with the existing health issues and challenges of delivering health care in developing country like Ghana.

You will definitely gain valuable insight into Ghana culture and will have the opportunity to improve your skills in a variety of areas in health care. You will work in the hospital five days a week from 8: am to 1:00pm. You have the rest of the day to yourself; you can explore the city with the other volunteers. The volunteer house you will be staying is very close to the beach, art craft center and the market so there is always a lot to do.

Ghana has so much to offer volunteers with its rich culture, festivals, food, art & craft centers, castles & forts, long sandy beaches, national parks, waterfalls, rain forest and other interesting places to visit. Volunteers who come to Ghana experience these even more fully by getting an insider's understanding of the country. 

Every weekend we organize trips for our volunteers to travel throughout Ghana to experience the Ghanaian cultural and explore. We have a lot of projects all over Ghana so you can choose to volunteer in the capital city Accra or in the Ghanaian country side.

Our program is an excellent opportunity to combine adventurous foreign travel with a worthwhile job as a volunteer. You will improve your transferable skills such as team-working, presentation and communication. Above all, this is an unrivaled opportunity to gain an insight into a completely different culture and way of life. 

Our projects are not all about work, volunteers get opportunities to explore this beautiful part of West Africa such as: 

  • Elmina and Cape Coast Castle
  • Kakum National Park
  • Nzulezo Stilt Village 

They are all within few hours from the community you will be staying in. Ghana offers an array of varying cultures and landscapes including national parks and stunning rain-forests.

Minimum Age: 18 years

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:00 - 13:30

Program fees include: 

  • food! we have a cook in the volunteer house who prepares three meals a day for all the volunteer.

  • orientation and 24 hour support from our staff
  • laundry, drinking water, toiletries and wireless internet access 24-hours a day in the volunteer house so that you can keep in touch with friends and family back home.

Our aim is to provide cheap and affordable volunteer opportunity to people like you so that you can help make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate in Africa. There is no any hidden cost, apart from the project fees which covers everything.

Airport Pickup at Kotoka International Airport

After you have book your flight let me know your arrival date, time, flight name and flight number so that we can send our driver to pick you up at the airport. The airport is 35 minutes drive from our Accra volunteer house. Our driver will pick you up from the airport.

There is only one international airport in Ghana call Kotoka international airport or Accra international airport so you will be flying into this airport. Our driver will pick you up from the airport whatever time or day you arrive at the airport

Accommodation

You can choose to stay:

  • in a volunteer house with other volunteers from all over the world and make new friends.
  • with a local host family. This offers you the opportunity to get a deeper sight into the Ghanaian culture and to get a closer relation with your patients.

You can also do both, spend half of your time in a volunteer house and another half with a local host family. We are very flexible.

Food & Beverages

We have a cook in the volunteer house who prepares three meals a day for all the volunteer, If you are a vegetarian or have any allergies this is taken into account when we arrange your placement. We provide volunteers bottled drinking water.

The nearest airport is Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra. We assist you to find cheap flights to Ghana. FIND CHEAP FLIGHTS

Travel Insurance

Details on arrival

Our projects run throughout the year so you can volunteer with us any time that is suitable for you. Our minimum volunteering period is two weeks and the maximum of one year. You need to send us your application at least four weeks before your intended trip to Ghana to volunteer with us. This will give us enough time to send you all the necessary document and information you will need for your visa and guide you throughout the process.

Final Payment
