Review Description

Our Conservation Mission

At Ocean Conservation Cambodia, our mission extends beyond offering exceptional diving experiences; we are deeply committed to the conservation and protection of our marine environments. We believe that the beauty and diversity of Cambodia's coastal waters are treasures that must be preserved for future generations. Our conservation efforts focus on education, active participation, and sustainable practices to ensure the health and vitality of our underwater ecosystems.

Key Initiatives

  1. Coral Regeneration Projects

    • We are actively involved in coral regeneration initiatives aimed at restoring damaged reefs. By cultivating and planting new corals, we help rebuild these vital underwater structures that support diverse marine life.
  2. Marine Debris Clean-Up

    • Regular underwater and coastal clean-up operations are a core part of our conservation efforts. We organize and participate in clean-up dives to remove debris and reduce pollution, helping to maintain a pristine environment for marine species.
  3. Environmental Education

    • Education is a powerful tool for conservation. We offer workshops, training sessions, and dive briefings that emphasize the importance of marine conservation. Our aim is to inspire both locals and tourists to become stewards of the ocean.
  4. Sustainable Diving Practices

    • We promote and adhere to sustainable diving practices to minimize our environmental impact. This includes responsible waste management, avoiding contact with marine life, and using eco-friendly products.
  5. Community Engagement

    • Involving the local community is crucial for long-term conservation success. We work closely with local schools, businesses, and organizations to raise awareness about marine conservation and to foster a collective effort in protecting our coastal areas.
  6. Research and Monitoring

    • We support and conduct research to monitor the health of our marine ecosystems. This data helps us understand the impacts of environmental changes and human activities, guiding our conservation strategies and actions.

Sin Som

Sin Som, the owner of Ocean Conservation Cambodia, discovered her passion for scuba diving off the coast of Sihanoukville. Initially mistaking scuba diving for snorkeling, her first dive revealed a vibrant underwater world that ignited her desire to learn more. In 2017, Sin moved to Myanmar, where she completed her “Open Water” and “Advanced Open Water” diving courses. By 2020, she had moved to Thailand to complete the “Rescue Course.”

In 2021, Sin returned to Cambodia and proudly became the first Cambodian female Dive Master. This achievement deepened her understanding of marine environments and the importance of conservation. Sin aims to educate others about the beauty and fragility of Cambodia’s marine ecosystems, teaching both locals and visitors to dive while emphasizing environmental stewardship.

James Swain

James Swain brings over 30 years of diving experience across Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, Mexico, and the South Pacific to Ocean Conservation Cambodia. As a PADI Master Instructor and an SSI Instructor Trainer, James has a deep passion for marine conservation, which he actively incorporates into his diving practices. He has led conservation projects in Cambodia, Chile, and Romania and now aims to create a coral regeneration project off the coast of Sihanoukville.

James believes that every diver, whether new or seasoned, plays a crucial role in protecting and cleaning the ocean. He enjoys guiding newcomers through the Discover Scuba Diving Experience, witnessing their initial apprehension transform into awe as they explore the underwater world. His motto, "Keep the oceans clean, have fun in a safe and wonderful environment," encapsulates his approach to diving and conservation.
