    À propos du programme

Tanzanite Nursery School is a kindergarten founded in 2020 by Salim Sangali. It is located in Mbauda, a poor neighborhood on the western side of the city of Arusha. The project started operating immediately after schools were reopened after the COVID lockdown. During that time, most people had lost their jobs and had no financial means to send their children to school.

Founder Salim, a carpenter by profession, is a passionate education advocate determined to bring quality education to children in
people in the neighborhood who cannot afford it.

    Challenges:
Tanzanite Nursery School is still very much in its early stages, with most equipment not being there due to financial shortages. Children's study equipment, sports equipment, and teaching support would be a huge necessity in helping this project grow.
The classrooms are also not in the best shape for kids, with a much-needed ventilation system and a new toilet.

    What can you do:
Anyone is welcome to participate in this project in a variety of capacities. Volunteers can assist in teaching the children and assisting the staff in improving their teaching abilities and relationships with the children. The facilities require some upgrades and maintenance work, so this is also an area where you could help. You can also assist with fundraising and donations for educational equipment or financial assistance to cover the running costs of the project, such as staff salaries and food for the kids.

    How to get there:
The best and easiest way to get to this project from our hostel is by using public transportation. You connect two buses from the hostel to the project, which can take up to 90 minutes to go and 60 minutes to return depending on traffic, as the traffic is thicker in the morning.
The round trip cost Tsh 2,000 ($0.86) from the hostel to the project and back. On the first day, our staff will guide you on how to get around with public transportation to and from the project.

During the time spent at the project, the volunteer will be expected to assist with teaching and child care. Specific tasks may vary depending on the needs of the project and the volunteer's skillset. It is recommended that the volunteer brings snacks with them to the project and that they make a sandwich or take some fruit to eat while there.

    On the weekend:

On the weekends volunteers will hand some free time to explore the local culture and surroundings. This could involve activities such as sightseeing, visiting local markets, and interacting with members of the community.

Volunteers may have the opportunity to participate in organized tours or excursions on the weekends, such as visiting a waterfall, a coffee plantation, or a Maasai boma (a traditional Maasai village). These activities may require additional fees or expenses, so volunteers should be prepared to cover any costs associated with organized tours or excursions.

Who we are? What we do?

This empowerment project was founded in 2009 with the desire to combine Tanzanian Fashion with a good cause.

Initially, the project was dedicated to women coming from difficult family situations, but then it developed into a project for all the community members. Today they manufacture shawls, carpets, blankets, necklaces, belts, bracelets, earrings, key chains, and other goods to secure a fair income for the women and men in their community.

At the moment we have a team of 10 people that directly work on the project every day. 8 members of our team are working in the production of weaved products, batik and jewelry and the other two multitask between management and product development. The team is made of 4 men and 6 women.

    Where we work?

Our workshop is located in a very safe neighborhood 2.8 Kilometers (1.7 Miles) from the Arusha city center (Arusha Region, Tanzania) and easily accessible by public transport.

    Our mission

Our mission is to put the community at the center. Indeed, in Tanzania, it is common that one member of the family provides for all the others. So thanks to the solidarity chain created through this project, the goal of various families to access decent living, studies, health, etc can be achieved.

    Our goal

Our goal is to improve the lives of our community through handcraft skills together with entrepreneurship skills. We want to reach more people in our community, offer them training as well as helping them find a market for their products at the best prices.

    Who are we looking for?

We are looking for anyone willing to contribute to improving our way of operating the project. No special skills are required but the key areas that we seek help in are marketing content creators, business management, product development.

    Why choose us?

Choosing us will give you the chance for a unique and true experience living the Tanzanian life and getting the first-hand experience of having and operating a business in Africa.
