    About the program

The hospital covers all modern medical care like maternity, pediatrics, family planning, diabetics, tuberculosis, eye and dental care, mental health, physiotherapy, dermatology, orthopedics and HIV & AIDS. Experience is required for this project. You must be either training in a medical profession, or be a qualified doctor or nurse.

You can assist in more than one department/units depending on your skills, interest and the need of the hospital.

Please keep an open mind and remember that hospitals in Tanzania are run differently than in your home country. For example, resources are often limited and access to healthcare depends on a person’s income.

The hospital strives to serve and treat people by providing competent and compassionate medical care, promoting community health programs.

The project is located 10km (6.2miles) from the hostel and can be reached via public transport. However, the Selian Hospital provides free transport for all staff where the bus will stop at 7 am on the main road in-front of the hostel.

This project requires a donation of US$200 per month. This donation is not included in the program fee, and is paid directly to the hospital on your first day. Furthermore, you are expected to send us your Proof of Academic Certificates.

    About the project

Viva Tanzania is a German-Tanzanian organization established in order to support meaningful and needy projects in Arusha, North Tanzania.

    Meet your organization

Viva Tanzania was established in 2015 by Tizia Doriye due to her passion for intercultural encounters, tourism and nature. Tizia is a Cultural Anthropologist by profession. Together with our local team we want to make sure that you can make experiences abroad in a safe environment.

We want to assist people from all over the world and Tanzanians to learn from one another through intercultural exchange. By helping foreigners to find meaningful projects that need support we do not only want to enable them to gain experience in working and being with people from different origins but also broaden the horizonts of everyone. Our mission is to establish an environment in which intercultural encounter can take place. Our participants will be enabled to gain first hand experience in a totally different sourrounding from what they are knowing. We want to show them the diversity of people, cultures and lifestyles. On the other hand we want to support needy projects in Arusha, our hometown.

Our vision is to change the people's perception of Africa, Tanzania and its inhabitants through challenging and reducing stereotypes and racism. We believe that this can only be done through intercultural exchange like volunteering.

Tizia is the of Viva Tanzania. She has a Bachelor in Cultural Anthropology and she wrote her Bachelor thesis about Maasai stereotypes in media and tourism. She loves her three kids and three dogs as well as the life in Tanzania. She is responsible for the website, the marketing and the communication before, while and after your stay. She already spent a year as a volunteer in Tanzania and did an internship in Arusha. She is also a yoga teacher and a massage therapist. So she definitely knows what’s important to make your time unforgettable. At the same time she is your contact person for all intercultural issues and problems.
