    About the program

Levolosi Health Centre is one of several public primary healthcare facilities within Arusha. It is owned by the government of Tanzania and operated by the Arusha City Council. The Centre provides a large range of healthcare services, and its main focus is on reproductive and child health.

This health center, which has a 45-bed capacity, can attend to an average of 150 to 200 outpatients per day, with more than 500 surgeries per year.

The available departments are: medical, midwifery, dental, physiotherapy, radiology, nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, and emergency medicine.

    The Project

The project is located 4 km from the volunteer house, and it is reachable by public transportation. The volunteer hours begin at 8 am and end at 3pm, but if you're interested in having more hours, you'll be allowed. It is also possible to work night shifts or on weekends if you wish.

The centre provides a large range of healthcare services, with the main focus on reproductive and child health.

Having a theatre, the centre is able to carry out various surgical procedures. The C-section is one of the main procedures done at Levolosi Health Centre.

For midwifery students and professionals, the centre is the best placement as it has a high number of deliveries compared to other healthcare facilities within Arusha.

You will gain a lot of hands-on experience such as assisting during deliveries, assisting with a C-section, giving vaccinations to neonates, and doing minor procedures such as suturing.

    Lunch is not provided.

    Please note:

Medical background knowledge is needed, and a one-time donation of $100  is required.

    About the project

Viva Tanzania is a German-Tanzanian organization established in order to support meaningful and needy projects in Arusha, North Tanzania.

    Meet your organization

Viva Tanzania was established in 2015 by Tizia Doriye due to her passion for intercultural encounters, tourism and nature. Tizia is a Cultural Anthropologist by profession. Together with our local team we want to make sure that you can make experiences abroad in a safe environment.

We want to assist people from all over the world and Tanzanians to learn from one another through intercultural exchange. By helping foreigners to find meaningful projects that need support we do not only want to enable them to gain experience in working and being with people from different origins but also broaden the horizonts of everyone. Our mission is to establish an environment in which intercultural encounter can take place. Our participants will be enabled to gain first hand experience in a totally different sourrounding from what they are knowing. We want to show them the diversity of people, cultures and lifestyles. On the other hand we want to support needy projects in Arusha, our hometown.

Our vision is to change the people's perception of Africa, Tanzania and its inhabitants through challenging and reducing stereotypes and racism. We believe that this can only be done through intercultural exchange like volunteering.

Tizia is the of Viva Tanzania. She has a Bachelor in Cultural Anthropology and she wrote her Bachelor thesis about Maasai stereotypes in media and tourism. She loves her three kids and three dogs as well as the life in Tanzania. She is responsible for the website, the marketing and the communication before, while and after your stay. She already spent a year as a volunteer in Tanzania and did an internship in Arusha. She is also a yoga teacher and a massage therapist. So she definitely knows what’s important to make your time unforgettable. At the same time she is your contact person for all intercultural issues and problems.
