About the program

Welcome to our world!

Our farm is home to our four-legged family, a combination of horses, cats and dogs, most of whom have been rescued over the years. We operate this program in the Indian summer (May-Sep) when it's hot (May-Jun) and wet due to the monsoon (Jul-Sep). This program is for those who aren't afraid (and, who knows, even love) to wake up early in the morning. To beat the summer heat, we are on the farm early in the mornings (5-7am) and late in the afternoons (6-8pm). The rest of the day is free to do what you want. This program is ideal if you want to combine a unique experience with plenty of free time.

We are Manjeev & Charlotte, a French-Indian couple who are trained under the famous Californian horse whisperer Monty Roberts. We are passionate about horse and animal welfare, as well as enabling people to have the tools to develop trusting relationships with animals.

This volunteer program is really about one thing: spending as much quality and cuddly time as possible with our animals. Living in India, we are lucky to have have farm help, which means that a lot of the less fun stuff (like cleaning poop) is already being taken care of. What we need, and what our animals need, is wonderful, loving humans who want to cuddle, cuddle and cuddle some more (oh, and add some more cuddle in there too.) Most of our animals have a difficult past, yet they have incredible faith and love for people. We need your help reciprocating that love!

Concretely, this means spending a lot of time brushing them, engaging with them, taking them out for walks, playing with them etc.

We get very involved with our volunteers and want to make sure they have the best time possible, learning as much as they can as well as enjoying all the things we offer to our clients. This is why we don't take more than 2 volunteers at any time to make sure we can give the best quality time.

You will be staying at our place inside a gated complex, in town (a 15min drive to the farm) walking distance from modern amenities such as Starbucks, cinemas and plenty of delicious restaurants and street food and even a spa! You'll have your own room, bathroom and private living room area.

You have access to a fully furnished kitchen where you can cook meals. There are also plenty of restaurants next door and it's very easy to order in.

Typical day

To avoid the worst of the summer heat, we get up before dawn to be at the farm from 5-8am. As you approach the farm, all our dogs will be excitedly waiting at the gate! As soon as you walk in, you'll be in high demand for attention. This is where your job starts: making sure you spend time with everyone, from the very demanding ones to the shy ones. The horses and cats are just as keen on cuddles as the dogs are, so you have a lot on your hands! Your morning will involve brushing all the animals, making sure they are doing well, cuddling them, playing with them, and just generally letting them feel loved. We often give them showers to cool them down, as well as shampoo them once in a while.

You'll discover each dog, cat and horse's personality and different needs, including specific exercise and play needs. We'll show you how to do it so you can then do it yourself. All our animals are very safe around people (but not all the dogs get along, which needs careful management).

Around 8am we head back home, where you are free to carry on the rest of the day as you wish. You will be staying with us in a fully furnished, air conditioned apartment, making it ideal to do remote work if required, to go and explore the area, or simply to relax. There is a nice spa/massage centre next door, as well as a cinema, bookstore, etc. We will also be happy to help you find great things to do during your time off.

We return to the farm around 6pm when the animals are let out again after the worst of the heat. The program is similar to the morning one and offers an opportunity to catch up on the animals you may not have had the time to spend moments with in the morning. Around 8pm we head back home for dinner and sleep.

And just in case you haven't had enough animal cuddles, you can come with us to the local shelter, where we spend a lot of time helping out.

About the project

We teach and train people in the non-violent methods of Natural Horsemanship

Meet your organization

The organisation was created by two advanced students of the world renown horse whisperer Monty Roberts. After spending some time training at his school in California, we set up a Natural Horsemanship Centre in India's capital. We are India's only natural horsemanship school. Horses have long been part of India's history and culture but a lot of the methods used are traditional and can be painful and cruel for horses. Horses are also used in construction sites or markets as working animals, owned by people who are not educated as to how to best take care of them. We work in partnership with local NGOs to help train rescued horses as well as spread the word on non-violent ways of training and being on and around horses. We also work with stud farms and other equestrian organisations training their horses as well as teaching their teams.

We also use horses for equitherapy, personal developments and corporate leadership trainings.
